Solar panels on a rural business roof

Solar for Farms, Wineries and Rural Businesses

Keep your farm running, day and night. Solar for the daytime load, batteries for the night, and backup when the rural line goes down, for pumps, cool rooms, dairies and sheds.

Solar and Batteries for Every Farm and Rural Business

Each operation uses power its own way. Choose yours to see how we'd approach it.

Irrigation and Bore Pumping

The Problem:

Pumps running for hours, often far from the shed and on the most expensive tariff

Our Solution:

Solar sized to your pumping hours, with solar pumps for remote bores

Irrigation and stock water pumps run mostly in daylight, which is when solar makes power. We size solar to your pumps, fit solar pumping for remote bores and troughs, and add a battery where pumping runs into the night.

Key Features:

  • Ground-mount or shed-roof solar sized to your pumps
  • Solar pumps for remote bores and troughs
  • Variable speed drives to cut pump power
  • Monitoring you can check from the paddock

Commercial Batteries for Rural Sites

Store your solar for the night, cut the demand charges set by pumps and compressors starting, and keep cool rooms and sheds running when the line goes down.

  1. 30–50 kWh

    15–30 kW

    Homesteads, small sheds, cellar doors

Evening loads and backup for the house and essentials.

  2. 100 kWh

    50–100 kW

Dairies, cool rooms, small packing sheds

Both milkings, overnight refrigeration and demand peaks.

  3. 215–261 kWh

    100–125 kW

    Wineries, cold stores, breweries, poultry

One cabinet for vintage peaks, night loads and backup.

  4. 500+ kWh

    250 kW and up

    Large packing sheds, feedlots, processing

Several cabinets, sized to your load and network limits.

  • Federal STCs up to 1 MW

Since 1 October 2026, solar systems up to 1 MW earn small-scale technology certificates up front, taken off your quote.

  • Instant asset write-off

Permanent from 1 July 2026: businesses under $10m turnover can write off eligible assets under $20,000 each.

  • Battery rebates for business

The federal battery rebate covers small-business batteries, and in NSW the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme pays for business batteries from 20 kWh up.

Built for Rural Power

Rural power brings problems city systems never meet. We design around them.

  • Single-wire (SWER) lines

Many farms are on single-wire earth return lines with little spare capacity, so networks cap how much solar can export. A battery stores what can't be sent back.

  • Tight export limits

At the end of a long line, export is often limited or zero. We design to the limit your network sets, so you use your solar instead of wasting it.

  • Long outages

Storms, bushfires and faults can leave rural lines down for days. Backup keeps the house, cool rooms and essential sheds running.

  • Generators

Keep your diesel generator. A battery and the right inverter use it as a last resort, so it runs far less.

  • Single or three-phase

Pumps, compressors and shearing sheds often need three-phase power. We design for what you have and what your equipment needs.

  • Distance and access

Remote monitoring shows every system from your phone, and alerts us before a fault becomes a call-out.

How It Works on a Farm

From the first visit to the system running, planned around your season.

  1. We look at your site

Your bills, interval data, sheds, pumps and where the panels can go, on a site visit or from photos and plans.

  2. We design and apply

We size solar and batteries to your loads and handle the connection application with your network.

  3. We install around your season

Scheduled around harvest, vintage, calving or milking, so the work doesn't get in the way.

Why Choose Platform Energy

Rural systems designed from your loads, installed around your season, and looked after from a distance.

  1. Designed From Your Loads

Sized from your bills, interval data and equipment, not a standard farm package.

  2. Every Incentive Applied

STCs up to 1 MW, battery rebates and state incentives worked into your numbers up front.

  3. We Handle the Network

Connection applications, export limits and SWER constraints, dealt with for you.

  4. Industry-Leading After-Sales Support

Remote monitoring, servicing and warranty claims handled by our after-sales team.

Common Questions

Straight answers about solar and batteries for farms and rural businesses across Australia.

Can solar run my irrigation pumps?

Yes, during the day, which is when most pumping happens. We size solar to your pumps' power and hours, fit solar pumping for remote bores, and add a battery if you pump into the night.

Is a battery worth it for a cool room or cold store?

Often. Refrigeration runs all night, a battery carries it on your own solar, trims the demand charges from compressors starting, and keeps stock cold in an outage. We model it on your interval data before you decide.

I'm on a single-wire (SWER) line. Can I still get solar?

Usually, yes, though your network may limit or block export. We design to that limit, and a battery stores the solar you can't send back so you still use it.

Can I keep my diesel generator?

Yes. With the right inverter, a battery uses the generator as a last resort, so it runs far less and costs less in fuel and servicing.

What incentives can a farm get?

Federal STCs take a discount off solar up to 1 MW. The federal battery rebate covers small-business batteries. Businesses under $10m turnover can use the $20,000 instant asset write-off on eligible assets. In NSW, the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme pays for business batteries.

Do you install outside the ACT, NSW, Queensland and Victoria?

Yes. We design and install for farms and rural businesses across Australia, including South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory.

Can you install around harvest, vintage or calving?

Yes. We plan the install around your season so the work doesn't get in the way of the operation.
