Commercial solar installation on a business roof

Cut Your Business Energy Costs With Solar and Storage

Since 1 October 2026, federal STCs cover business solar up to 1 MW, cutting upfront costs by around 20%. Add a commercial battery to trim peak demand charges, run past sunset and earn from the grid.

Solar for Every Business

From a corner shop to a cold store, the right system starts with when you use power. Choose your industry to see how we'd approach it.

Small Business & Retail

The Problem:

Daytime power for lights, cooling and refrigeration eating into margins

Our Solution:

Rooftop solar sized to your trading hours, with an optional battery for evenings

For shops, cafés, clinics and small offices that use most of their power during the day — which is exactly when solar produces it. Systems up to 100 kW earn the federal STC discount up front.

Key Features:

  • Systems from 10 kW to 100 kW
  • Federal STC discount taken off the quote
  • Batteries from about 20 kWh for evening trade
  • Real-time monitoring of production and use
  • Manufacturer warranties on every component
Payback typically 3–5 years

Commercial Batteries

Store your solar, cut the demand charges set by your highest peaks, keep running through outages and earn from the grid. C&I batteries now cost around $450–$750 per kWh installed.

  1. 50 kWh

    25–50 kW

    Shops, cafés, clinics, small farms

Carry evening trade and cover short outages.

  2. 100 kWh

    50–100 kW

    Offices, workshops, cold rooms

Shave daily demand peaks and shift solar into the night.

  3. 215–261 kWh

    100–125 kW

    Factories, hotels, farms, schools

One cabinet — 232 kWh is a common size — for demand charges, backup and the grid.

  4. 500+ kWh

    250 kW and up

    Large sites and multi-building campuses

Several cabinets, sized to your load profile and network limits.

  • Federal discount, small business

The Cheaper Home Batteries Program covers small-business batteries too — about 30% off the first 50 kWh of usable capacity.

  • NSW business battery incentive

From 1 September 2026, the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme pays for business batteries: 20–200 kWh (BESS4) and 200 kWh to 30 MWh (BESS5).

  • Instant asset write-off

Made permanent from 1 July 2026: businesses under $10m turnover can write off eligible assets under $20,000 each.

Earn From Your Battery in a Virtual Power Plant

A Virtual Power Plant links your battery with thousands of others so the grid can draw on them at its busiest moments and pays you for it. We enrol your site with the program that fits how it runs.

  1. We find your match

Retailer VPPs such as Amber for smaller batteries, demand-response programs for larger sites. We compare what each pays against your load and your battery.

  2. We enrol and connect

We set up the controls and the sign-up, on limits you agree, so the battery covers your own peaks first.

  3. You get paid

Payments, credits or lower demand charges. In NSW, joining also unlocks state battery incentives; from May 2027, aggregated batteries can bid into the wholesale market.

Why Choose Platform Energy

Systems designed around your site and your tariff, with every incentive applied.

  1. Designed to Your Load

We size solar and storage from your interval data and tariff, not a rule of thumb.

  2. Every Incentive Applied

STCs up to 1 MW, state battery incentives and write-offs worked into your numbers up front.

  3. Batteries That Earn

Demand-charge savings, backup and VPP income designed in from the start.

  4. Backed by Warranties

Manufacturer warranties on every component, plus our workmanship cover and monitoring.

Common Questions

Straight answers about commercial solar and batteries in the ACT, NSW, QLD and VIC.

What does commercial solar save a business in the ACT, NSW, QLD and VIC?

It depends on how much power you use during the day, your tariff and your demand charges. Businesses that use most of their power in daylight save the most. Small commercial systems typically pay back in three to five years, larger ones in three to seven. Your assessment gives you a figure for your own site.

What incentives can my business get?

Federal STCs take a discount off solar up to 1 MW — systems from 100 kW to 1 MW became eligible on 1 October 2026. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program covers small-business batteries. In NSW, the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme pays for business batteries from 1 September 2026. Businesses under $10m turnover can also use the $20,000 instant asset write-off on eligible assets.

Is a commercial battery worth it?

Often, if you pay demand charges or trade into the evening. A battery can cut the demand charge set by your highest peaks, store midday solar for later, keep critical loads running in an outage, and earn from a Virtual Power Plant. We model it against your interval data before you decide.

How long does installation take?

Systems under 100 kW are usually installed within a few weeks of approval. Larger systems and batteries take longer, mostly for network approvals, which we handle along with all permits and connection paperwork.

What maintenance is needed?

Very little: an annual inspection, occasional panel cleaning on dusty sites, and monitoring. We monitor performance and service the system for you if you choose.
